The bizarre behaviour of an amused Auckland driver had police baffled last night. The driver of a yellow Mercedes was spotted just before 9pm near the Tip Top corner in Mt Wellington driving north up the motorway with four flat tyres, Inspector Barry Smalley of the police northern communications centre said. After a short time, the tyres had burnt off and the car was driving on its rims.

The Mercedes was keeping below the speed limit and the driver was apparently "laughing their head off", Mr Smalley said. "Sparks continued to fly as police patrols closed in on the driver."

The vehicle was finally caught up with and stopped by police in Mt Wellington. The apprehending police officer said: "This is the strangest thing I have ever seen."

The driver "rolled from the vehicle" completely oblivious to the fact that the rims had been ground flat, Mr Smalley said. "The driver is now in the safe hands of the police."

It sure sounds like she was having a good time, even if the car wasn't. People - what a species.

I suspect LSD, or similar. Would be quite hilarious if you were smashed enough :icon_confused:
