Default Stuck for something 'different' to make for dinner?

Here?s food for thought. Tasty ways with bugs and mammals . Take away the taste of all those chocolate eggs with something new.

Well, we all had fun here reading that site. :icon_lol:

The writer was really brave, there is no way I would try some of those different foods. [smilie=sick.gif]

"Thailand street vendors serve up good tasty treats on Koh San road in Thailand. One cart had Maggots by the hand full"

I had those maggots before, deep fried, taste really like potato chips/french fries.. :icon_mrgreen: Actually quite yummy, i bought back a big bag and shared with my colleagues. You can guess, less than 1% of my colleagues tried them, in the end, most were dumped into the rubbish bin..after i finish like 1/4...

Don't see anything on cockroaches in there. I have a continuing supply of those but, judging by the dreadful smell they give off, I think I'll just keep chucking them in the bin. Pity, as there's quite a few meaty-looking ones.

Sorry, Pulsarblu. I should have put a ? :icon_wink: ? at the end of my post to show I was joking. I?m really not THAT desperate that I need to consider putting cockroaches on my menu. We have plenty of scorpions to keep us going, anyway. [smilie=lol 2.gif] .

Scorpions, yum.

I suppose I could eat grubs if I had to, but ... I don't (yet).

I noticed chorizo wasn't on the mammal list. I've eaten it, but stopped after seeing what it looked like uncooked, and found out what it was made of. It's billed as a spicy Mexican sausage, but is made of some sort of pork innard, and is very liquidy uncooked :smiley11:. Wikipedia says it's made of fatty pork, but that's not what I've seen. Not bad tasting, but I think I'll save it for when I'm really hungry.

[color=indigo:8493ba0827][b:8493ba0827]Cruise vows to eat baby's placenta [/b:8493ba0827][/color:8493ba0827]
20.04.06 1.00pm

If Tom Cruise is looking for a recipe for eating his daughter's placenta, smoothies, stir fry and spaghetti are some recommendations.

Shock is still resonating through Hollywood over the actor's comment he will eat the placenta and umbilical cord of his newly-born daughter Suri.

Although seemingly bizarre, the practice of Placentophagy is actually not as uncommon as it sounds. Mammals have eaten the placentas of their offspring since time began. A number of mothers also believe the placenta has healing properties and can help with breast feeding and prevent post-natal depression.

Lesley Maclennan from the New Zealand College of Midwives says the phenomenon is not common in New Zealand, but does happen. However it is usually the mother, not the father who partakes.

Ms Maclennan says in New Zealand, the placenta is usually buried or destroyed.

It is made of fatty pork with spices. The pork innard you are referring to is the pig intestine that the meat is stuffed into (though for the larger chorizo I would assume they would use beef as it is thicker and stronger). Pork intestines are the traditional choice for making sausages, though you can get some artificial ones these days.
