You're obsessed with my packing..

I'm paying 3500 quid for some packers, why would I want to pack.

It?s because we always seem to be packing and unpacking or, at least, thinking about it on the run up to hubster?s contract renewal time. We do our own to save money and know what a horrendous task it is packing up a whole house. I don?t 100% trust packers to take care of the more fragile items, so I would pack those myself anyway. The first time I shipped a few boxes of stuff, the packer slid large photo frames down the sides of the box. I?d put them in amongst my clothing for padding, but he wasn?t happy with that and moved them. Needless to say the glass was smashed to bits when the consignment arrived, hence my caution now. Of course, not all packers are nig noggers, like that one.

I feel the more I pack myself, the less time the packers are under my feet and there are always some bits and pieces of personal stuff that you might not want them to get their hands on. It?s good to see you so relaxed about it though. If we know we?ve got another move coming up, we start work on packing things as soon as possible, often months ahead. Hope it all goes well for both you and your worldly goods.

When I was younger I (and others) were often referred to as 'You silly nig nog.' That's only an extention of the same phrase. Perhaps it did have racial overtones in those days, but, I must say, I never thought of it that way. I assume you're thinking of the second word with an 'i' instead of an 'o'. It's a completely different word and is it you who are misreading it as something else?

Looks like I'm not the only one to have a hammering about it .

Something to do with Nig Nog and Golliwog rings a bell. It's definately a modern day racial slurr anyway.

It's a good job we're a pretty un-PC bunch or you could well have signed your own death certificate - digitally-wise!

No not reading it wrong, my mum uses that phrase in the context we suggest and she's about your age. I bet Golliwog didn't have those connotations when you were reading Enid Blyton back in the day, I certainly didn't but when I was older and heard she was a bit of a racist it all made a bit more sense.

Perhaps it's all down to how we perceive things and also how people take the words and distort them. Sad that it is this way. Times have certainly changed.
