Default CHAT ROOM

I?ve usually got the pute on from about 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. (Omani time) although I?m obviously not perched in front of it all the time (just most of it :icon_mrgreen: ). Oman is currently 3 hours ahead of the UK and 8 hours behind NZ, just so we can all get our clocks synchronised.

I mainly tend to get the stragglers or mysterious unknowns that log into the Chat Room and then go AWOL. Funny how they find their way into our Chat Room when they aren?t members of the forum. Wonder who they?re hoping to chat to. Been one in there today for hours, but not uttered a word. Must be hiding out or something.

Yeah, Taffy, it will be great if only forum members can login to the chat room. Initially I tried using my forum account but login was unsuccessful. I had to register for the chat account.

My concern is someone from external with ulterior motive will venture into our chat room...

Ulterior motives?? What will non-forum members do in the chat room that they couldn't do if they were registered forum members? Chat traitorously or something? Talk about things other than moving to New Zealand? Perhaps there is a spy in the camp and a forum member has secretly registered in the chat room under a different name........ *wonders to self if people are getting a little paranoid*

You guys worry too much :icon_rolleyes: :icon_wink:

Not too sure about that. Considering some members on another forum have been subjected to dodgy and abusive PMs, anything's possible.[img:ed9111477c]http://www.smilies.smileyville.net/smilies/923.gif[/img:ed9111477c]

Thats equally as possible if they register as a forum member and log into the chat room! I'm working on integrating chat to the forum anyway, so people don't have to register twice, but it's not really going to make much of a difference to the aforementioned problems!

My point is that we have, at least, some idea of who we're dealing with if it's only members who are in the Chat Room. If it's a complete stranger, you don't really know where they've come from or what they're about, if you get my drift.

If someone was being abusive or weird in Chat and they were a forum member, it would be very embarrassing for them to be named and shamed in front of the other members, whereas, if it was a non-member doing it, you might be able to ban them from further use of the Chat Room, but that's all. It wouldn't have the same impact on them as banning a member. They could just slink off into the night and continue their sad little habit elsewhere.

I would point out that I'm not in any way saying that the non-members who've registered so far would be guilty of this type of behaviour. I'm just saying this COULD happen as a worst case senario.

Jeez, I agree with welshgirl. Half the mebers who register don't post anyway or neccessarily come back, they could still go into chat and be abusive, and probably wouldn't give two hoots about being named and shamed. It would be a good idea just for smoothness of the sites applications but Taffy is already working on it so what's the problem. Nobody's come on and posted abusive messages (in my time) on the forum so why would they suddenly start logging into chat.

hehe love your little disclaimers at the bottom of your posts,"...don't sue me for libel pleease.." :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

Not really a disclaimer in this case, just trying to save genuine chatters' feelings if they think I'm having a go at them without cause. What do you think my name is....James? :icon_mrgreen:

If someone posts something abusive on the forum it's out in the open and everyone knows what's going on but, if it's in the Chat Room, it's behind closed doors (in a manner of speaking) and you wouldn't necessarily have proof you were being attacked. Funny how the other forums don't have Chat Rooms. Wonder why that is.
