So what's this I read about a sick kitty, MB? Which of your sweet fuzzballs is ailing? I hope that by the time I post this, the fuzzy one is better. BTW, how's the foot/ankle doing?

Thanks for asking.

The sick kitty is Purdey again ? the one with the fits. She?s been on meds for a while. The first dosage stopped the fits, but made her sick and lethargic because it was too strong. Using half the dose saw her a lot happier, but the fits returned. Then she developed cystitis and didn?t wee for a week , which was very worrying and also labour intensive as I had to try to get 7 lots of medication down her very resistant throat every day . She was wearing a trench to and from the litter tray, trying to produce something. Every time she?d been in, there was a mad dash to see if there?d been a result. There were many times we thought we were losing her. Finally she?s over that (hopefully ) and now it?s back to trying to adjust her medication to curb the fits. The last week hasn?t been too bad, but she?s still having partial fits where she falls asleep, but wees where she?s lying . As you can imagine, this causes no end of problems and I have to constantly watch her and slip a towelling pad under her bum. Anyone heard of kitty nappies (diapers)?

The ankle is coming along nicely but slowly, due to the osteoporosis and my age, as the doc never ceased to remind me . Was a bit of a shock to find out latterly that both sides of the ankle had been broken, not just the one. Getting about fine now, just have a bit of difficulty getting down stairs. Needless to say, I have a healthy respect for steps and stairs now.

Poor kitten, and MB too. One suggestion with Purdy's meds, if they're pills: smear them with a bit of butter so they'll slide down more easily.

...I suppose "Voice of Reason" would be a bit ironic (or is it sarcastic?), considering the snipe fests that MB & Stevey seem to enjoy ;) . Maybe "Sandbox Supervisor"? [smilie=White_flag.gif]

Getting the pills down her has been a major problem, but what I came up with was cutting the heads off little dried fish (anchovies, I think) that she adores. These provide a neat pocket to slide the meds in, as the dosage is only a third of a half tablet each time (they don't have cat sized meds here ::) ). She's been taking these really well, but has to be monitored closely in case the tablet drops out during the chewing process. It's only recently we've had trouble getting them down her, as I think her sense of smell has deteriorated somewhat. She only seems to show interest in them now if they're present en masse rather than singly.

P.S. No fish were harmed or suffered during this process as they were dead anyway.

I say again; poor Purdy! I didn't think she was terribly old - or are her ailments wreaking havoc with smell/appetite? The sardine trick is a good one, though I'd probably never get the smell off my hands. I've seen kitty treats with a pill pocket, but my cats can quickly become bored with treats. Thankfully the two we have now are healthy and relatively young.
