Default More misery for the Steve!!!

Consider myself crossed!!
You restricted by asking price at all or can you afford to drop for a quick sale? Wish I could, so hard to avoid temptation of getting shot of the burden and flogging cheap. We already had an offer of 5k below rock bottom, which would leave us some equity but not nearly enough to enjoy the first few months on arrival. 5k is about 4 months living expenses for us :icon_sad:

Like I said, right time of year tho good on yer. :icon_biggrin:

Default More misery for the Steve!!!

Hi Steve and all,
We joined the sick to the stomach club yesterday. Sold subject to contract, what terrible words they are.
Our buyers agreed on our house in November and yesterday went in to sign the contracts, then changed thier minds.!!!!!!!!

Oh what a blow, we've sold the car, provisionally booked shippers and a few other little things. Couldn't get flights so at least they were'nt booked.

House back on the market and the August deadline looming.

I wish i had a magic wand to help us all out. Good luck to everyone, we are not beaten yet, just a fleshwound as john cleese would say.

:icon_evil: :009: :005:

I'm sure i'll feel better in a week but today, New Zealand is still just as far away. :icon_rolleyes:

WHAT IS IT WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!! I wouldn't like to say how many people I've heard of that have been taken to the line, only to be dumped right in it.

I feel totally devastated for you, Driver. Have you any idea what their feeble excuse for wrecking your plans is? Just hope you can back on track a.s.a.p.

Although it is horrible when buyers pull you, you can't always blame them too much. People pull for for various reasons, and if they have already spent several hundred on valuations and solicitors then it probably was a very genuine reason.

I pulled out of a house purchase myself once. Why? because I had just started a new job, still had an old house that I was trying to sell and suddenly it looked like I might be made redundant, not the best time to be buying a house.

But there seem to be soooooo many doing this, albeit at various stages of the process. True, anything can happen at any time to change one's plans, but when it seems to have developed into a national pastime, it's maybe time for people to take a more serious look at what, where and why they're buying before they get in too deep and cause the vendors such grief. After all, they can just walk away (if they haven't already spent out on valuers etc.) without penalty, but the vendor is often left sitting there with their life and plans in tatters. Perhaps a tightening up of the rules might be in order.

Ahhh, nothing like a good rant. [smilie=prankster.gif]

The problem I think is that the banks and solicitors are demanding more and more checks be done prior to exchange of contract. This gives more time for the buyer to pull out and also more time for them to find possible things to change their minds. It used to be that you would get quite a gap between exchange of contracts and completion, now it can even happen on the same day.

Hi MB and Moggy, yeah you are both right, they must have had a good reason, but it didn't make me feel any better. They were in the solicitors office with the contracts on the table!!!!
I am trying to look at it as if its thier loss not ours.
We are back on the market and have had 3 viewings since Thurs. With a bit of luck we'll be back in the running again soon.
Trouble is we only have the visa until August so it might be cutting it a bit fine.

What about Steve has he got another buyer yet??
With the spring around the corner lets hope there are some real buyers out there just waiting and ready to go.

After reading about the house-selling blues, I am glad that we won't be selling right away (when & if we get PR). We just need to line up a responsible someone to rent the house.

Driver, is it possible for you to start working in NZ and let the rest of the family deal with house selling? Or is there someone to whom you could grant power of attorney (or the UK equivalent) for house selling? Not great options if you need the money, but they're thoughts. Good luck to all of you trying to sell.

He's gone very quiet again, so he's either got another bite and doesn't want to jinx himself by coming on the forum or he's off brooding somewhere because nothing's moving. Must be agonising having all those let-downs.

Selchie, i'll make it quick cos i feel i'm treading all over steves post.
I'm not the main wage earner and OH won't go without us :icon_rolleyes:
Even if he did someone needs to be here to pay the mortgage anyway.
Lifes complicated, but we're not beaten yet. Had 3 viewers at the weekend who are now all interested. One coming back for a 2nd look and another already put in an offer. I'm sure we'll sell up and get there before August.
