Default Where was your favourite holiday?

Just sitting here in the sun thinking how much, even after 12 months, like a holiday it is at times.
Thinking axiomatically about past holidays. I think my favourite was in Paphos, such a beautiful island. Such friendly people despite the problems of turkish rule.
My worst was without doubt in beautiful; olde worlde Cornwall. We were in a tent and it rained constantly. On the 10th day of a 14 day break I woke to the croaking of a benevolent frog sitting in the cup alongside my ear. Within ten minutes we had struck camp and headed for home. Purely as an aside, wasn't it a lot more expensive with kids when it was raining on holiday?

You're right Daisypop, being in NZ often strikes us as being on a long holiday. You just look around sometimes and have what we lovingly refer to as a 'New Zealand Moment' where it suddenly strikes you where you are, and how lucky you are to be there!

My last holiday was when I was 14 and we went to Italy with the school - *coughs* years ago..... :icon_confused:

Never really had any urge to leave Wales - now look at me, 12,000 miles away :icon_rolleyes:

Being married to an expat, I?m in the fortunate position of being able sample living in other countries whilst my husband gets paid for working there. Being away from our base country for so long, we often feel we have to take our leave back in the UK where we can catch up with family and friends. That?s not to say we haven?t had a few ?foreign? holidays as well, notably one to Egypt which took us down to Aswan, visiting Abu Simbel, and sailing from Aswan to Luxor on one of the Nile cruises. From Luxor we flew to Cairo and spent our last few days there. We really enjoyed ourselves although, by the end of it, we were totally templed out. The weather was great, the company also. We saw a lot of things that made us ponder on the ingenuity and skill of ancient Egyptian civilisation when we compared what they had at their disposal then, by way of technology, to what is available now. How they built their temples and the pyramids, shifting and lifting massive blocks of stone and placing them so precisely and carving deep into solid rock, is beyond belief. Egypt, with its tourist sites, is very commercialised and gimmicky now but, nevertheless, it did give us plenty to think about as to exactly how they managed to achieve what they did without all the heavy building machinery that is in use today. Today?s Egyptian is a mere shadow of his former compatriot and it?s sad to see the deterioration from what must have been a very powerful race. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during those ancient times and watched the power and magic at work.

Well, that?s what I think about Egypt. Next holiday is in...... New Zealand. Let?s see if it can top that.[img:b363ede56e]http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/figuren/c035.gif[/img:b363ede56e]

I have to agree there, our holiday this year was fantastic. It was also sort of a delayed honeymoon (i was a year after we got married) which made it even more special.
