Default My re-entry to the USA....and the resulting confusion

(I'm here for 6 weeks for Thanksgiving, Xmas, etc)
Door to door (including transport to and from the airports) took 23 hours. I had 4 hours sleep in 32 hours.

The plane flights (Auckland to LAX and LAX to Atlanta) were really smooth.

Except for when I ACCIDENTLY broke a wine glass, and it could be considered a sharp object. I called a flight attendant and told her it's not a good thing to have on a plane. She just shrugged. I'm going to sue later. :icon_wink:

When I was in LAX something funny happened to me. Again and again and again.

Now, in New Zealand there are an array of accents as it's a fairly international place with no real enemies (other than Aussie in rugby)....well, and then there's the time where French spies blew up a ship in one of our harbour's (no one likes the French, not even Kiwis)[/size:8d5b7881d9]

Well, one accent I always perked up to was the American accent, and most of the time I'd strike up a convo with them (or if I saw some tell-tale signs of American tourists, without hearing the speech - white socks, tucked in shirt, name brand clothes to show off, women with makeup, or old people with hiked up khaki shorts....it's really pretty easy to spot em)...ok, you know my secrets now.[/size:8d5b7881d9]

[b:8d5b7881d9]So I kept on hearing an American accent. Again and again. And I kept turning my head.

JAMES!! You're in America now!! It's normal!![/b:8d5b7881d9]

Oh, and first thing I told my grandmother when we started driving was she was driving on the wrong side of the road! :icon_lol:

I sure hope Grandma didn't automatically shift to the other lane!

Thinking on the broken wine glass, I've long thought it strange that airlines have banished metal flatware and confiscated nail clippers and the like, but still allow other potentially dangerous items. Plastic flatware, for example can put out an eye and maybe worse. Not that I'm going to try, but considering one of the Sept 11 hijackers sucessfully threatened the crew with a box cutter... I'd have rather risked a nasty gash or loss of copius amounts of blood to letting those guys get access to the cockpit. ...Tiff over.

Hope your holidays are happy.

I was surprised to find out that shaving kits are available on majority of Singapore Airlines flights. You just need to know where to find them (in the lavatory's amenties drawer...) or just ask from the air stewardess.

They are of course potentially dangerous in the wrong hands...
