Well, every cloud has a silver lining - the longer it takes to get to NZ the longer time you have for the exchange rate to get better.

2.42 and still heading down. Tell us about it! We just transferred a whack of money over, intending it to be used for a house purchase (which subsequently fell through), so I dread to think what we got for our GBPs.

It will no doubt get better at some point, but who knows when that'll be. They keep forecasting it, but it doesn't happen. Same with house prices. They've been saying for a while now that the market will crash, but it hasn't. It may be levelling out a bit at the mo, but that's all.

Surely it's gonna keep improving, there's so much growth potential why would the dollar start weakening.

The house prices thing is a joke, they say the same about the UK but it just levels out(don't I know it grrr). I guess the difference is there's still loads of room to build so technically supply should be better than here in the UK

The big problem with house prices here is that the cost of a house now outweighs peoples income, so they will have to drop or the market will just stop all together!

If you ever think about having a house built, just don?t get any ideas about sharing a plot with someone else. What a nightmare trying to find something that?s affordable, in the right area, big enough to support 2 houses comfortably, isn?t in danger of being flooded by a nearby river, isn?t on a gully (unless land is big enough to build well away from the gully area), has easy access and the toughy, complies with the local council?s regulations for splitting the title (each council tends to differ on their requirements). We?ve found some cracking plots, some with one house on already, but there?s always something wrong with them when we look into them further. At this rate we may have to buy 2 big caravans and park them on a plot. There?d probably be a ruling against that as well!

I hope Taffy?s right about prices possibly coming down at some point. Perhaps, then, we can find something more suitable.
