'Love' in the Arabian Gulf

I trust he wasn?t caught doing it in daylight hours during Ramadan or he?d have really been up to his armpits in it (trouble, that is :icon_biggrin: ). You?re not allowed to partake of pleasures of the flesh until the call to prayer at dusk e.g. smoking, drinking (even water), eating, sex or taking part in general merriment. You wouldn?t believe how strict it is in some parts of the Gulf. Both he and the camel would be doing time for that alone. Don?t suppose he?d have minded if they ended up sharing a cell :icon_confused: .

Still haven't got a reply from Mr. Stevey, elaborating on whether he was decrying your jokes or merely commenting on the sad demise of the camel. Can't 'rise up' if there's nothing to rise up about.

A few years ago some fella was caught en flagrante delicto with a horse at a local boarding stable. Apparently he'd been sneaking in for some time. Staff and owners had been puzzled at finding some things moved around, like boxes near a stall. Someone came in at night to check on things, and found him with his pants around his ankles.

The camel incident also reminds me of the opening scene in (a French?) movie called The Advocate, about a medieval attorney. A man and donkey are standing at the gallows, sentenced to hang for bestiality. A fellow shows up at the last minute with testimony from neighboring villagers who sold the donkey to the condemned man. They attested to her modest nature and chastity, and said that surely she had not consented to the liason. The judge finds her innocent, and they proceed to hang the man!

Quite right too! This obviously didn't happen in Arabia, where the female's good character is of no importance. She's 'tainted' and has sullied the good name of the family, therefore, she must die.

Hmmm not sure what category camel buggery comes into, it's surely not sex and it couldn't have been generally merry. Change the r's in merry to s's and you're probably closer. Either way the Ramadan festival would have no additional affect to the poor bugger(er). :icon_frown:
