Oh, television. In the US, we have The History Channel, which is now primarily the All WWII Channel. The Discovery Channel used to have some nifty science and nature shows, but now shows mostly natural disasters. And the list goes on. Even PBS shows mostly crap, but at least there's Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery!, both of which import British programs. Thank goodness for The Sopranos and a (small) handful of other quality US shows. I should ditch cable and rent a series' DVD set when it comes out.

I think kiwis fall between british and American humor.
We don't seem to make much good humor of our own unfortunalty.

Faulty towers (with sybil's laugh sounding like someone machine gunning a seal) and Basil like a brillintened stick insect, was much loved and played here agin on prime last year.

British humor, at its best, IS the best.
I think its because its intellectual humor, with many of the programs witten by people with university backgrounds - Monthy Python, Faulty Towers etc, and the love of wit and playing with english words.

Well, there really is some good American humor (somewhere... I think), but the masses just don't understand it, so it gathers dust in some television producer's closet. Wait - I remember! The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show (60s version, not the movie). That was good enough for my dad to watch. Since the 80s I've watched precious little TV, so having little to choose from in NZ will not be painful.

I've yet to catch up on Fawlty Towers or Black Adder. They were on PBS in the years I had no TV. Something to look forward to.

For American humour, you can't beat Friends, Joey and Scrubs. Very funny :icon_biggrin:

So I'm out of the loop when it comes to TV comedy. Too much inertia from all those years of not watching.

We call that BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, Thingy 5 and the rest.
Apart from CBEEBIES, UK is very poor as well.
