cost of living, taxes etc.

Hi,

I suddenly got a job opportunity in Auckland and now have to think about going there or not.
Since I'm not informed about immigration to NZ I have no feeling what the offer exactly means. Could anybody tell me something about cost of living, taxes (I found something about income taxes but what taxes have to be subtracted from my gross income in addition?), house prices etc. that will allow me to compare my currently available cash with the cash I can expect in NZ?

Average pay rate is around $34-36K NZ.

Taxes up to $38K are 19.5%. After that it's 33% from 38-60K. And 39.5 60K+

If you will be flatting with others (normal renting situation) you'll be paying around $450-700 NZ a month. Depends on what kind of place you want, where, and how many flatmates.

Groceries will be around $200-300 a month, but that varies on your needs.

A Whopper value meal costs $7 NZ. That may give you some guage.

Petrol is $3 US with conversion to US Dollars and US Gallons. ($1.23 NZ a litre).

Car insurance is under $700 a year. Very cheap compared to US.
