Jam without seeds?

I was told as a kid to avoid it at all costs as the actual friut content is very low, you buy geletine and flavoring.

The seeds mean it REAL jam from honest to goodness fruit....

.. thats what I was told and stick by...

(there was a case of marmalade without peel sold by Oak?? That was made of pumpkin etc, and only a little fruit in it. )

when we move to auckland end of may, we intend to pack a few boxes of tayto srisps and boxes of cadburys chocolate into the freight container, we will welcome them 8 weeks later!! also things like bisto granuals. its amazing what we take for granted here we would miss terribly over there. only problem is what to do when they run out, oh and tea bags....... a must.what is the nz confectionary like anyway? we are in ireland and whenever we visited the states the chocolate was terrible, has anyone ever tried the hershy bar experience!! bye for now

Hi Lisa,

I'm not too sure you'd be allowed to pack chocolate in your freight container, as you're not allowed to bring dairy prodcuts into NZ! You might find if you do, they will confiscate it when they check the contents. You might be alright with the crisps though!

I'm not sure, I will check for you, but I think I've seen Bisto gravy granules on the shelf in one of the supermarkets. They sell Oxo cubes anyway...... I'll let you know on the Bisto score!

Tea-bags, as you quite correctly said, are a must! There's a supermarket called Pak'N'Save that sells PG Tips - other than that, it's all brands I haven't heard of. I did try a few unknown brands, but I couldn't find one that compared to good ole Tetley or PG Tips!

Confectionary is pretty good here, much the same as Britain. You get your Twix, Mars Bar, Flake, etc etc, and they all taste the same. They also have other little quirky bars, like Pinkies (strawberry marshmallow covered in chocolate), Perkynana (banana marshmallow covered in chocolate) and Moro's (a less sweet version of a Mars Bar, which is supposed to give you an energy boost!).

There are some things I find I can't get over here (see my previous posts!) but all in all, you can get pretty much most things here, and if you can't, there's usually something you can use to replace it!

Fresh fruit & veg is lovely, as is fresh meat - and it's cheaper than the UK.

Watch out for some rebranding though - you'll only recognise some famous brands by their labelling. (e.g. if you're a Heinz lover, you'll now need to look for 'Watties' on the shelf!).

Hope this helps anyway :icon_biggrin:
