see here...

http://weta.boarsnest.net/gallery.htm

They are BIG !!! The first one I met came out of a large camelia bush I was pruning...it crawled, cursing and snarling, across the lawn, kicking stones and logs away as it went (OK - some poetic license there). I ran away...but when I came back I escorted it to the golf course across the road so that it could put someone off their shot !!

P.S. they are harmless (and protected) but look like they would eat you for staring at them for too long !

forget earthworms, they should use THOSE on Fear Factor. gross. No wonder Peter Jackson hates them. I can't imagine why Weta would name their Workshop after one of those boogers!

Having seen those pictures of Wetas, I now know where they got there inspiration for the bugs in the film "starship troopers". You know the one where they land on an alien planet and blow seven shades out of the arachnid alien bugs?

Eugh, Do they sell giant cans of insectacide to deal with these things?

At least they don't have scorpions or centipedes (they don't do they?) - yick. Or black widows. I can do with creepy looks as long as they have no nasty bites/stings. And if they stay out of my hair.

No scorpions or Black Widows - not sure about the centipedes though.....

A can of Raid will kill just about anything that crawls or flies - even the White-Backed spider!

I'm ok with creepy crawlies, but show me anything that flies and I'm be out of there faster than a bullet! My pet hate (phobia in fact!) in Britain was wasps - fortunately they don't seem to bother you here!

I wouldn't say that - the one and only time I have been stung by a wasp was in NZ - got me on the neck - bloody hurt too!!
