Default The 'old' Introduce yourself!

Hi,

My name is David and I live in Cheshire, UK.

Both I and my partner (Pauline) are planning to move to NZ later this year. Our plan is to do lots of looking on the internet for jobs, houses, climate and other general information about different areas in New Zealand and then visit sometime in September.

We have already been down to NZ House in London and spoken with the very helpful people there. It seems even with the lowering of the points for being taken from the pool of interest you still MUST have a job or offer to make the 140 points as I think it now is.

I will look for a job whilst in NZ as this seems to be the best method. (There seems to be a requirement to be able to make a face to face interview.) I am hoping that the time from any offer to getting the work permit is short. Has anyone got recent experience of this??

Taffy, thanks for this great website and best of luck.

David

My apologies, it says on their website that only Australian, British or NZers dont need visitors permits, but in the operations manual it says citizens of the USA can visit for up to 3 months without a visa (UK being allowed 6 month visits without one). Who would read the operations manual to discover this is beyond me, but that seems to be the official stamp on things!

I became another victim of the misleading NZ immigration website!!

[quote:2e8b1ad167]Hey Taffy!

Well, now you're famous in the NZ Herald, I shouldn't imagine you'll have much difficulty in getting in now - being a celebrity and all! [/quote:2e8b1ad167]

Taffy

So that you know it doesn't take much to become a celeb in NZ - if you've kept an eye on the papers here (which I assume you have) coupla months back there was a woolly sheep called Shrek who got his 15 mins of fame for having wool and lots of it!
Anyways my name is Tuini and I am 22 yr old living, working, barely exisiting in Auckland, NZ. I wish you every success in ur endeavour to make NZ ur home like it is to 4 million other kiwis here and around the world!

Yes, we saw Shrek, he also had his 5 minutes of fame on our old forum (there's a couple of pics of him there too).

Although, I suppose there are 40million sheep to 4million people, so the odd sheep is bound to get a mention in the papers now and again!

I think my 5 minutes of celeb status are well and truly over now though :(

Default Intro time

Hey everybody,

I am Dan-ish and I was a member of the old site and have been away for a bit - but it's good to be back.

I went to New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa and fell in love with the place. My girlfriend (who I met in NZ) and I hope to move there in a few years after I have qualified as a teacher.

Good luck everybody!

Dan-ish :P

Hi all!
Phantasm, here, checking back in. We have a big family (6 of us), and plan to move to NZ as soon as I can finish my Chemistry degree here in the States. Probably, I'll be able to get an internship for 3 months about a year before finishing - the goal is to get a job offer from it! So, I'll be very careful where I apply to for the internship! (more points, more points!). I'm taking the slow road, so it'll be at least 5 years before I am ready to apply for immigration.
In the meantime, any websites/information on international real estate investing? We figure we may as well put our money where we're going to use it!
Thanks in advance!

- Phantasm

Default The 'old' Introduce yourself!

Hello everyone...

It's so nice to see that there are so many people interested in moving to NZ... We have been planning ourselves to move there since almost 3 yrs ago... but next month our dream is finally coming through...

To introduce ourselves... I'm a 30 yr old (first-time) mum of an almost 9 month baby, married to an Englishman... I'm Dutch/Indonesian myself (so I'm looking on how long I exactly am allowed to stay there on a visitor's visa)... Our plan is, as most of you guys, for my husband to find a job and hope we can stay that way...

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any families going to NZ with a baby? I'm trying to find out if how to get in touch with baby playgroups / nurseries (Are there crazy waiting times as in Holland/UK as well?) Any tips on baby-shops would be great too... Oh and also... is there a system like in the UK where there are health-visitors to check the growth of babies? What else... oh... any tips on flying such a long trip from UK to NZ (via Singapore) with a baby would be very much appreciated...

Well, I'll be checking this website (which is fab by the way) out everyday... until we go...

Bye for now...
