Default hello and good luck

Hi Taffy just arrived here via nz herald article
you should get considerabkle interest from it.
being a born and bred kiwi i am keen to have more intellectual people with familys who can speak english and build themselfs into the community.
i wish you luck.
just a little peice of advice(to anyone) when it comes to any financial issues,
dont ever bother going through any agencies.
just go directly to the government bonded banks first.
that will set the bench mark for risk free stuff.
the property market is still bouyant here and is soon to slow i would expect, so no hurry in purchase.
there is still waiting lists for new home construction from what i have heard, that rarely changes.

there are always swaiths of jobs for accountants in the newspapers.

with my personal experience we also need skilled IT engineers in the consumer market who can speak english clearly.
makes a mockery of the immagration policy imho.

fingers crossed for you
good luck
:)

Got here from the NZherald website

Well I arrived here 3 years ago from Newport South Wales and i am NEVER returning to live in the UK.

I have read a couple of posts on here and believe me the UK aint got nothing on NZ (Not even the rugby!!!!)

I have spoken to many ppl who have come out here in the IT industry (which i am in as well) and I have found that getting residency from outside NZ is a nitemare.

I did mine from inside, after i arrived.

Good luck with it all, it is worth it. I go for Citizenship shortly and also my son is reping for New Zealand in the TaeKwon-Do World Champs, i think we feel at home here.

On the word of crime, i live in Auckland, never lock my car at night. No one has touched it anywhere i park.

Also here via the Herald article...

I'm a born and bred Kiwi, but married to a Bristol lass, she's a permanent resident, not interested in going for citizenship, and I hope to soon have an application in for my 2 year old son, giving him dual NZ/UK citizenship (for when he inevitably gets the travel bug in the future!)

But wife has no desire to go back, so we'll be here, waiting to give you a great big pavlova, complete with cream and kiwifruit slices when you finally get here Taff... :)

Cheers, and look forward to having you over here!

Default hiya

Hi everyone.

My name is Jim, originally from Staffordshire, and I ran the New Zealand immigration gauntlet about 3 years ago! I'm in my late twenties and have settled myself in Auckland quite nicely. Needless to say, I made it. I got those little stickers in my passport now and it wasn't an easy task, so I'm quite willing to share my experiences with anyone with a query! I initially came here on a one year working holiday visa, soon decided that I'd rather stay and then underwent the nightmare that is the NZ Immigration Service!

I never actually intended to emigrate. This beautiful country just happened to afford me an opportunity to have a fresh start and a new life. I worked as an IT technician (yawn) for a while, but since gone back to uni here and training to be a paramedic. It's not always rosey, but I'm glad I made the decision to stay. And in the end, the hassle was worth it. I did it all on my own too which is what I'm happiest about! :D I was hoping to become a citizen at the beginning of next year, but unfortunately Helen Clark's government has moved the goal posts on that one too and made things much harder, so now I have to wait another 2 whole years. Boo hoo. Well, they've let me stay permanently so I ought to be thankful and guess I can wait a wee bit longer yet...

Please feel free to drop me a line if there's something I can help with.

Good luck everyone!

Jim.

Hi there,

We are a family from the UK & came out to new zealand 18 months ago on a work permit for 2 years. We had job offers before we came & got our permits whilst still in UK.

After being here for a while we decided to stay & submitted an expression of interest form in Feb this year, we were invited to apply & were granted Permanent residence on friday. We found the system & NZIS straightforward. We were familiar with the previous system but feel that the new system is an improvement. However it is geared to benefit skilled migrants in priority occupations. More info & an online points assesment can be found on the NZIS website. www.immigration.govt.nz.

Other issues: property prices creeping up & Auckland is very expensive even when converting GBP also you get more points for immigration if you have a job offer outside of Auckland. There are lots of other fabulous places!

Crime: despite what one other member said earlier about leaving her car unlocked, burglary is a very high crime statistic here & I would definately not leave my car unlocked in Auckland. Hope some of this helps? Mel

Hi Taffy,

I'm a kiwi and my husband is from Scotland. We live in Auckland.

Read about you in the NZ Herald, and just wanted to wish you luck and hope you can make it to NZ. We feel we need more people like yourself instead of some of the useless people we seem to let in and throw money at!

Is it not possible for you to come on a visitor visa and look for work and then apply for a work permit? That is what my husband did and he's now a resident. That was quite a few years ago though, and I guess things must have changed.

Anyway, good luck to you and your family.

JAFA

Thank you Jafa! Its always the same problem really, politics makes mistakes, lets the wrong kind of things happen, then tightens up its procedures so tightly that not even a mouse could squeeze through!

We shall battle on! (Unless immigration read the article and dont want us there now!)
