Default The 'old' Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone!!

We are hopefully going to join some family out in Auckland next year if all the applications go through OK. We visited Auckland Xmas 03 and loved it.

To ensure we get selected I've spent the last 4 yrs studying to get the required qualifications!!! With one still to pass this summer!

Hence my question about pre-assessment!!

At the moment we score 100 points without a job offer so as soon as we get the assessment back and its good news our EOI will be submitted.

Wish everybody success with their apps!!

Jo

Hi everyone,

I'm Julia - some of you will recognise me from another site. I'm married to a Kiwi and hoping to move to the North Island (BOP, Northland or Coromandel :icon_confused: ) sometime in the next year or so.

Hi & welcome to the forum ::):

We lived in the BOP (Tauranga) for a few months. Lovely place but way too expensive for us these days! We're now living in Hamilton which is a great place too!

Where's your OH originally from?

Good luck in your quest to move here :icon_biggrin:

Default Hello

Thought I'd better formally introduce myself (already posted on other boards).
I am 32 and an academic resrearcher (environmental modelling), with a wife (slightly older) who is a doctor (paeds). We have two kids, 3 and 1.
We lived in NZ (Napier) from 1998-1999, and even got married out there. For some bizarre reason, which I don't quite understand, although we loved the place we came back to the UK to give it a go here. We always intended to go back, but we thought we'd better give the UK one more chance. I think it took about 3 months of being back in the here until we were sure we wanted to settle permanently in NZ.
But the Mrs is on a five year training course which she needs to finish, and because the kids have come along and she's gone part-time, this is taking longer than planned.
We SO want to go back to NZ! And with the points threshold at 100 ATM it is so tempting to just apply and worry about everything else later. But, we should be able to start the process by the end of this year, which will make me feel better at least.

I think I do suffer from rose-tinted spectacles a bit when it comes to NZ (I wasn't working while we were there!), but I am sure our kids will have a better life there than they would here. Jobs and money aren't everything. I would be happy if they turned out to be a couple of surf bums.
Anyway, plan is to move out in early 2007 (that sounds a long way away!). Would prefer North Island, but I would take anywhere to begin with.

BTW, great website Taffy (except it's made my yearning to go to NZ about 10 times worse).

Coxy

Hi everybody,

Lucky to have found another forum again!! With - as I have noticed - again different kind of information. You cannot get enough when you're in this process.

My hubby and I have sent in our EOI on 24th February, selected 2nd March, decision successful 24th March. Now we are preparing all paperwork and medicals. Hopefully, we will be able to sent our ITA at the end of April, 2005 and then things really are getting close!!! :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

We live in The Netherlands and wish to emigrate to NZ for a better lifestyle and adventure. Just hanging around here, earning a lot of money, people still complaining about everything, atmosphere going down and then end up with a pension and hopefully still be able to travel, is not our vision of the future. NZ was on the top of our list, but we did not think we would be able to get a visa, but since the points were lowered to 100, we got our chance. We posted our EOI with only 100 points and without job offer. Hopefully this will work.

Regards,
Anita

Hi both and welcome to the forum! :icon_biggrin:

There is a lot of information already on here that may be useful to you in the coming months, as you prepare for your move to NZ. And if you have any questions that you can't find the answers to on here, then just ask - someone will always come up with an answer for you, or at least point you in the right direction!

You've picked a great country to come to - we (Taffy & I) have been in NZ for 6 months now (originally from the UK) and, although there have been periods of homesickness, we are confident we made the right move. We've just applied for Residency ourselves - we're awaiting our ITA any day now :026:

Do you have any kids? What are your occupations?

Anyway, good luck with your quest and hope to see you in NZ soon :039:

Thanks. He's from Wellington originally, but we don't want city life and also a slightly better climate would be nice.

Any advice on the areas we're thinking about?

Hi Julia,

I can't tell you much about Northland or Coromandel I'm afraid, but the BOP is a lovely place to live. If you're looking for a better climate, then anywhere along the east coast is probably your best bet. It depends on what you're looking for really.... Tauranga is apparently the most desirable place to live, but this reflects in the house prices which have shot up over the last year or two. Having said that, there are places along the east coast where it is still comparatively cheap to live - Gisborne and Whakatane are some examples.....

Hope this helps a bit!

Hi Welshgirl,
Thanks for your welcoming words. And to answer your questions: we don't have any children. I am an Office Manager and my hubby is HR Consultant and hopefully we'll find jobs somewhere in/around Christchurch, but this might as well change to wherever we like it / a job is available.
We are open for any challenge and do not have/want to stick to our professions.
Regards,
Anita

Hi Both ::):

Any reason you've specifically chosen Christchurch? Have you ever been to NZ before?

You're fortunate enough to be able to take your pick of locations in NZ really - depends what you really want over here. The big cities like Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, etc probably have more job opportunities, but obviously a lot more people, so if you want a quieter life, you could try somewhere outside the major cities. Also, the North Island generally has better weather than the South Island, particularly the east coast.

In any case, it's all good here, so wherever you pick, I'm sure you won't regret it!!

Best of luck :icon_biggrin:
