Default The 'old' Introduce yourself!

Hiya you've probably seen my posts but an official introduction would be:
I'm Stephen I have a wife called Claire and we are both 22. We also have a little boy called Rupert who is almost 2 and by the time we come over for our 3 week reccy of the country in June we will have another boy of about 2 months old named Isaac.
We wantto come to New Zealand as we have just missed out on the property boom and only just got on the ladder. Unfortunately for 300,000NZD we own nothing more than a tiny 2up 2 down box on a housing estate. At the end of the day, every young family's dream is to own a nice family home and frankly that is NEVER going to happen in the UK now. Overpopulation and nanny state government is driving us away from the fair green hills of England...so we'll go to some greener hills thousands of miles away :icon_biggrin:

Default Ready to go!

Hi Taffy

Your site is fantastic, we have been enoying the forums over a bottle of wine over many nights.

A little about us. I'm Nick35 & my Wife is Jacky 36. Two Kids 7&8. We went to stay with my brother at Christmas. He's in Nelson. And we can safely say that we have been well and truely bitten by the Kiwi bug! I am a Quantity Surveyor & my wife is a Nurse....so with our qualifications, we are hoping to get residency without a firm job offer. Ideally we want to be near family (north end of south island - Nelson/Blenheim area). It seems that the points threshhold is very low at the moment, so we are going to go for it! Could you tell us how long we have to move from when we are accepted. Its a bit of a chicken & egg syndrome with jobs / selling houses etc.

Thanks again for your great site.

Cheers

Nick & Jacky

Nick,

I'm a quantity surveyor too. Initially we were drawn to Nelson but as I'm self employed and want to stay that way we consider Chch as having more opportunities being considerably bigger. Not before I'd found out practically all I wanted to about Nelson on this site http://www.nelsonnz.co.nz/ The recruitment agency www.fanselow.co.nz even had a qs job advertised in Blenheim.

IIRC you have 12 months to land once residency has been granted, but check on the NZIS site http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/

Good luck with the process. Don't know if you've been in contact with any of the institutions, http://nziob.org.nz/ and http://www.nziqs.co.nz/. They say they'll recognise UK qualifications/experience once you've practiced for 6 or 12 months respectively in NZ.

Default Hello!

Hi there all!

My Name is Suzie and I'm an Aussie girl looking to move to NZ in the next year or so. My boyfriend is a kiwi so we are eager to move 'home' to raise our daughter in a less fast paced environment.

Taffy, this is a fantastic website and forum. It has so much fantastic information and your all such a lovely group of people. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all in the future!

Default Hello

My names Paul, and my wifes name is Laura. We are both 24! I have a solid job offer in a church in Auckland, with a 2 year contract. They want us in June, so things are moving really fast. We are in the process of trying to work out which VISA is the best for us.

Having read several posts, would it make sense to get a working holiday VISA for one year with the view to applying for something more permanent once we are there, or get a missionary VISA (still trying to find it ont the govt website!)

Depending on how much we like it, we may well want to stay long term. We have no idea where in Auckland we'll live, but i think the church is in Grafton, so near there will be the best bet.

Were looking forward to moving out - we love surfing and snowboarding and teh outdoor life!!

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum!

I think the category for missionaries is under the Work to Residence visa. I'm sure I've seen it there somewhere!

All the best

Default Hello again

Hiya all and Kia Ora,
Been away for a bit as i was getting depressed about not hearing anything about my application for a job in N.Z.!!!!
Here goes a bit about me and my family :icon_rolleyes:

I am 35 and the better half is a couple oh years younger, we have 2 kids, a boy 3 1/2, and a girl 1.
I am a prison officer ( someone has got to do it!) and i applies to join the N.Z corrections service last year. I had not heard anything back from them until last week, when progress seemed to have been made.
If you dont know they are building 4 new prisons, 3 in the north and 1 in the south, and have just started to recruit from the uk service. :icon_biggrin: . Fingers crossed everything will go fine and they are looking at officers taking up post between August and March next year.
There is a seminar sometime this month( no date set yet?) with the correctional service and the NZIS attending. They have made it a skilled migrant catogry.

We are hoping to get a position up in the North, Auckland/Northland and Waikato areas, so only time will tell.

I think i have bored you all by now

Cheers
Darren :icon_wink:

Default Introduction....

Hi everyone.

I'm new to this stuff but I've been reading some good stuff here and thought I'd join in.

I'm Steve and my wife Ceri attended the London Expo in Oct 04 with my sister who is now working in Auckland on a work permit. We only went with my sister as an excuse to have a weekend away.

However, at the Expo we became very excited by the opportunities in NZ and the chance for a new adventure. I was also in between jobs at the time so it seemed even more enticing.

So after a good deal of thinking and saying goodbye to my sister and her boyfriend we spent a few hours filling in the EOI. I was however, expecting the process to take longer than it has, 5 week to receive the ITA.

So here we are 1 house sold, car for sale, X-rays complete, police checks done, work references done. Only the medicals to complete and NZ here we come. Oh! and sell my house!

So what plans have we when we get there?
We have 2 boys, 7 and 3yrs, so Ceri wants a few years out to settle and look after the childen. (I wanted to do that !!!!)
As for me, I expect a job in engineering but I've just completed 4 yrs training as a Psychotherapist so I could look for a place full of people with 'issues'.

Maybe I could start with Immigrants !!! Are we running away or do we have greater expectations. (now there's a good forum subject).

Anyway that's me.... Thanks for your time....

Hi Nessie.

No we're not planning on Auckland, could be Wellington or Christchurch at the moment. Ceri is doing a lot of research in these areas and ChCh looks favourite at the moment. However, it depends on where I get a job.

My sister, Rhian is enjoying Auckland but has advised us to maybe check some other areas out. She got a job as a Social Worker, which was supposed to be a 'job swap' but since there is a shortage of SW's she got a job offer straight away.

I see you're looking at ChCh too, the brochures look nice as does the web sight.. but then again they would !!!
Cheers.....
