The Russians Are Here!

Posted 15-05-2008 at 05:24 AM by selchie
Last Sunday evening, we were watching the bees working the garden. Out of the blue, Karin said “Why don’t you go ahead and get another hive?” I was blown away; Karin was so nervous about having just one hive in the garden. I guess she’s more comfortable now, and might even get a bigger kick out of watching them than I do. She also has visions of golden honey flowing from the spigots : )

On Monday morning, I wasn’t sure I really had heard her, or that it might have been a dream. I...

The saga is NOT over!!!

Posted 14-05-2008 at 01:40 AM by nickydwuk
After having had a new boiler installed a month ago I woke this morning to find the new one was leaking. I AM DOOMED. However they have agreed to come out this week (Friday) to try and repair it. I don't ask much from life, just hot & cold running water, a roof over my head and some food (not too fattening) on the table. I have tried to be good but someone up there is throwing all sorts of spanners at me to stop things from going smoothly.

Bees Week 2

Posted 12-05-2008 at 09:28 AM by selchie
Once again our intrepid explorer has ventured into the bees’ domain. There were two frames well filled with capped brood (pupae). These were last week’s fat larvae. I was able to identify several capped drone pupae – they’re larger than workers, so their cell caps stick up like warts. The eggs have become larvae, and more eggs have been laid. I didn’t see Queen Boudica, but she’s been around recently. I’ll not fret unless she & eggs are missing next week. I don’t want to pester the hive too...

Sheep development!!

Posted 11-05-2008 at 11:28 AM by Dawn
As I was opening the gate at the bottom of our drive yesterday morning, I noticed a sheep looking at me alluringly through the thin wires of the fence. It had a black face and black legs but a white fleece. It had two hangy-downy bits of wool dangling from one side of it's neck like stringy snot and I didn't like the look of it at all (the sheep that is, not the stringy snot type things - well, thinking about it, I didn't like the look of either of them). Sheep don't really look at you alluringly,...

No not me- wouldn't even want to dare imagine myself in a Tutu- oh the horror!

We took jessia for her first ballet lesson today. After mentioning it to her about a week ago she hasn't stopped talking about it and today knowing she was having her first lesson this afternoon all we got was 'it must be time to go now'.

Anyway we turned up at the lesson in Whitby and met her friend Niamh outside who leant her a leotard and skirt. The ballet teacher was a little apprehensive...
