And so it continues........

Our boiler engineer was supposed to come today to replace the part that they 'think' is causing the leak. Lo & behold I got a phone call at 9am to say he wouldn't be coming as his van had broken down - could he come next week instead . I was very calm and didn't raise my voice too much and agreed as I had no choice. OH just keeps saying forget the whole thing as we are leaving soon but I don't really want to hand over the house with a leaky boiler. I do have some pride

Just before I got this call, the surveyor turned up unannounced!! The wet patch on the ceiling (dry now) hadn't been painted, my son was still in bed and the house was a tip. I told him we weren't expecting him - I have spent the last few days trying to chase up with the agent when the surveyor was coming - it appears the buyer arranged this with his mortgage company but no one thought to inform me. Just as well I was off work. It may have worked in our favour as he couldn't give the place a really thorough going over as we hadn't cleared area's properly. Just wait and see now.

Cripes .. what a time of it you are happening.

Look on the bright side, the buyer is paying for a survey, so they must be serious?

What a palaver! You'll be glad to put all this behind you when you go. Let's hope there won't be any more things going wrong before you leave. Warn everyone not to touch anything, just in case .

So far no more problems with this house but the one we are buying -that's a different story. It's not really the house but the neighbour. We have 3 dogs and so will need a permit to keep them. We will also need to get our neighbours permission (although the council have said that they make the final decision). So that we can be better prepared the current owners approached this neighbour and asked about the dogs. He was not keen so the agent suggested I write to him. I sent a nice letter with a plan of where the dogs would be kept, the fences etc... and some nice family doggy pictures. Never heard from him. Yesterday I got an email from the community hospital that backs onto our new house, with a copy of a letter they have sent to the council saying that they object to the dogs. This 'neighbour' had shown them my letter and got them to write to the council. Their objection - the section is too small for 3 dogs and this will cause them to become frustrated and bark so disturbing their patients . My house here is half the size of our new one and the dogs don't bark - how do they know this is what will happen? Can they travel through time? Are they doggy telepathic?

Needless to say I am fuming. The council feel that the section is plenty big enough for my dogs but say that the barking may become an issue. Until we get there no one can judge. I thought Kiwi's were friendly and accomodating. Why couldn't he have at least had the courtesy to contact me and tell me his concerns rather than go about things in this back stabbing way.

Oh jeez, what a can of worms you've got there. Not only problems with keeping the dogs there, but already got 'issues' with the sneaky next door neighbour. It almost sounds like they're ganging up against you.

But what can you do about the situation if you're already committed to buying the house? I guess it's a chicken and egg thing where you can't keep the dogs there until you get a permit and you maybe can't get a permit until you can convince the neighbours that the dogs won't be a problem.

This is something you could well do without, but it could serve as a warning to other doggy people that these things can happen. Hope you can resolve it one way or another, Nicky.

    Blimey Nicky.
I'm guessing there aren't any other dogs on the estate then near to your house? But like you say- how can they judge before they've even seen. Maybe the neighbours have had trouble with dogs before but like people- not all dogs are the same.
Hope things get sorted soon Nicky- last thing you want is tension with neighbours before you even arrive.

We have decided to 'suck it and see' and wait until we get to NZ before we start worrying about it. We know the dogs will be ok - we just have to persuade them to give us a chance.
