The move has begun

We've just completed on the house today
Yesterday we moved out of our house in Preston and moved over to the mother-in-laws house in Huddersfield, it's all starting to feel a bit more real now that we're living out of our luggage. We're going to be about 15kg over on our baggage for the flight, but hopefully our scales are out in our favour and we'll remedy that when we can use the scales at the airport. We're going to have to do a quick re-pack and anything over the limit is going to the post office with the MIL with a blank cheque....
After the palaver with getting my adverts into the local paper I managed to sell all my furniture, made several trips to the charity shops and gave away everything else. Our boxes were shipped last Friday and despite getting three extra boxes that I didn't think we'd use we've filled the lot. So hopefully soon they'll be on their way to Whangarei.
Have been doing all the banking today, putting the majority of the proceeds from the house into a 2 year bond cos the exchange rate is crap at the moment, and hopefully at the end of the two years the property market in NZ will be ready for us.
Going to attempt to transfer some money to a NZ bank account in a few days, not sure how much I trust the company doing the transfer....but hopefully we'll be OK, there is loads of good feedback on them and they do seem to be very competent.
I can't believe that we're flying out to NZ in 6 days, crikey, time has started to fly

What an exciting time for you Gina
. How do well do you get on with MIL? I think I would find it a strain living with either in-laws or my mum again. Bet you can't believe it is finally here. We have just over 12 weeks to go and I am feeling it now. God knows what we'll be like when we reach your stage. Have you git a motel/holiday let/ rental sorted out?Posted 26-06-2008 at 07:31 AM by nickydwuk

You got everything planned for when you arrive?House, jobs etc.
12 weeks Nicky- will be here before you know it (never know we could be heading back as you are heading over)Posted 26-06-2008 at 10:24 AM by ebianca

I've got a holiday let booked for our first 8-10 weeks, it's a 3 bed bungalow which just down the road from my parents house and is really near the bay. I'm planning on finding a rental house during that time, but these seem to be few and far between in the little village where we're going to be. We've got no jobs to go to, our plan is to spend about 6 months in Waipu (about 2 hours north of Auckland) near my family, getting to know them again after spending 10 years away, and then we'll move to wherever my hubby gets a job, hopefully no more than 3 hours drive away.
We've had loads of little going away parties, just had lunch with my sister-in-law today cos she's flying out to the Canaries for 2 weeks holiday and won't be here when we fly out. Have got a whole pile of rellies seeing us off at the airport too. But also have got all my rellies meeting us at Auckland airport.
OMG it's 6 sleeps to go....argghhPosted 27-06-2008 at 02:28 AM by Ginabridget

I like your idea Selchie, I've even weighed my shoes so that I'm wearinng the heaviest ones onto the plane, we're carrying on all our winter coats and as many kids books as we can get away with....I've read the airlines guidelines on their carry-in luggage and am taking full advantage, or as my hubby likes to say we're taking the p*ss and will see if we can get away with it.Posted 27-06-2008 at 10:26 PM by Ginabridget
