Feeling Down!

Well we are loving life here in New Zealand (well I am- Neil still not too happy at work but who is?!) but the whole residency things is getting me down now.
We sent of our PR application and was stupidly expecting a fairly quick turn around with the job etc.
They weren't happy with Neils blood results so requested a re-test and also wanted more relationship evidence (as if being married for over 5 years with 2 kids aged 5 and 2 and being in NZ together isn't enough to prove it). This was pretty tricky as we burnt pretty much any paper work we had before we left and even if we hadn't all bills and mortgage etc was in Neils name only. We managed to get the bank to send statements from our joint bank to my FIL in the UK and also managed to get the Council to write a letter and send copy bill to show we shared the council tax (also sent to the FIL).
After over a week of these things being sent off we hadn't heard anything so Neil sent an email to the case officer who has replied saying he got the blood results (which we sent from NZ) and is forwarding them to the medical people but he hasn;t got the relationship evidence that the FIL sent from the UK (our case officer is in London by the way).
These were the only other things we could give them to prove our relationship and now they haven't even turned up and some how I can't see the council doing it again. Just feeling that everything is going against us now and that we aren't going to get the PR and that we will end up back in the UK next August when Neils work permit expires!

OMG - what a mare!
The kids birth certificates should act as proof of relationship. We were in a similar situation - all bills, mortgage etc were in my name ... as we never got around to putting it in both.
We got a lot of friends to write letters to confirm that we were in fact a married couple, living together for n years. Could you maybe do that?Posted 04-11-2008 at 04:16 PM by zummerzet_lou

We sent the birth certificates and a few bits and pieces from when we were living with the FIL and stuff from since we've been here but they want something from like 2007 so they have an 'even spread of evidence'. Just seems so silly that it's only 5 years and we've had 2 kids and moved to the other side of the world leaving all our friends and family and they want more proof that we are in a relationship- just makes me mad.
I sent downloaded statements from our joint bank sicne 2003 but they won't accept them cos they aren't original documents!!!
At the moment I wish I smoked or drank or something.Posted 04-11-2008 at 04:20 PM by ebianca

Sounds a bit of a jobsworth. We've already started gathering stuff together for proof of relationship but it's not easy. We tend to bin unnecessary paperwork each time we shift countries because it's too heavy to drag with us. Also, in the ME our utility bills are often in the landlord's name and not ours and the tenancy agreement is just in hubster's name.
One week doesn't sound very long for mail to arrive in NZ from the UK. It takes about 2 weeks for mail from the UK to reach Oman so not sure how long for NZ. Hopefully your documents will arrive soon.Posted 05-11-2008 at 04:15 PM by MotherBear

The stuff that he was missing was being sent from the UK to the UK (our application is with the London Branch) so should have been there within 2 days.
Anyway he emailed today and said that he has got the stuff (amazing how it turned up when we sent him a copy of the proof of postage) and it is just what he needed. YAY!!!!
Now just to wait and see what the medical guys makes of Neils latest blood test results.Posted 05-11-2008 at 05:11 PM by ebianca

Ah right. Must have misinterpreted that bit. Anyway, what a relief that it's finally turned up. Good old Royal Mail! Gets there in the end, even if it's 5 years late.Quote:Originally Posted by ebiancaThe stuff that he was missing was being sent from the UK to the UK

Its a hard thing to do but try and not let it get you down. I think most of us have had dilema's similar to yours and you always come out the other end smiling.
It is so hard to relax until you get that confirmation but you have to try and still enjoy yourselves, youre experiencing a wonderful new life, new things to learn, the kids have so much to explore and it's coming into Summer where kiwi life really begins. Try and keep your chin up and remember to talk about your stresses that you are feeling as well as you dont want them to explode in conversation!!
I have everything crossed for you all.Posted 06-11-2008 at 02:57 PM by LilAmy

Bethy, Bethy, Beth, Beth
why are you even worrying about this? Act like the confirmation has already happened, picture yourself getting the letter and opening it with a sigh of relief. Repeat with me: 'Everything to do with our residency is going to get sorted out simply and without event. I trust that we are living our truth and there cannot be any other outcome.'
Now say that every time you think about it and don't waste anymore time on what if's. Remember, we had a similar predicament with my ex and our residency and all I did was trust. Sometimes, it only takes a few things to go wrong and you feel like everything is going wrong. It's not. Look around you, see the wonderful life you're living and be grateful for what you already have. At the same time, be sure that it will continue and say that affirmation again.

Well update with the medical situation. The medical accessor still isn't happy. He has now said Neil needs to see a Liver Specialist AND a Haematologist because of his blood results. I dread to think how much it is all gonna cost or what they are going to say but he has initial consultations booked for Tuesday and Thursday next week. Hoping it is immigration just being over cautious and thatthe specialists will say it is nothing to be worried about.Posted 28-11-2008 at 09:21 AM by ebianca
