The blood tests are part and parcel of the medical along with urinalysis. They test for syphillis, HIV, Hepatitis B, liver function etc. so are an important part of the medical. On the form there are some other 'discretionary tests' mentioned at the bottom of the page so perhaps it was these that you were offered as an extra?
