I agree there Cliff, communities are so small here in NZ the positive word of mouth benefits far outweigh the financial tipping. And maybe paying with plastic as one of the reasons why they don't tip here. Everyone EFTPOS's. I've never used a card as much since we've been here. In UK they would be indignant with you using your debit card to pay for a carton of milk or a coffee. I mean, really look at you like, 'Are you having a laugh?', but here they EFTPOS a Mars bar! It' doesn't feel right to me, I still use cash, partly because it's easier for me to keep track of what I spend as well. Maybe that's another reason why kiwis seem to spend willy nilly, coz it really doesn't seem like cash when you swipe the plastic eh?
