I wouldn't say its relatively easy my husband had to apply with an application and all the rest, fortunately the job he is qualified to do is in the skills shortage and also the RNZN are looking to fill there growing fleet. We have been thinking about moving since 2003 and in 2004 my husband did an exchnge with the RNZN for 6 months to get a feel of what life would be like. So in essence yes it has been something we have thought about for 5 years, just never seemed to be the right time, children, family stuff but hopefully this is our time now!
