I don't really remember, I'm sure there was some announcement, probably one of those over the tanoy system where you can only understand every other word. I've only had it happen once and I've flown into NZ four times, flying in from either Australia or LA, so I'm not sure if it's dependent on where your port of origin was.
Maybe you could have one of those little masks with you, like the ones they had when SARS was about, and you could pop that on if they started spraying.
