I'm glad you've enjoyed it!
I do believe John does the filming himself, which is a bit disappointing since he's a really good actor. It would be nice to see him on the (very small) screen. Perhaps he'll appear in a later episode--my guess is that he will once the storyline about the filming of the comic book begins.
