I think the limit on BMI is 35, so if you are over that then the NZ medical assessor will want to inspect your case. All it means is they will want to see if you are doing anything to reduce your BMI, and what medical risks you may have if not much is changing. They calculate your eligibility based on how much of a 'burden' you may be to the NZ health system.
Many other people who apply for residency are in the same situation, and if you've not developed related illnesses such as diabetes then the solution is more often than not just a case of a diet!
