We didn't take out insurance, you're covered for all emergency treatment on a VV so didnt think it was worth it. I would think travel insurance was only worthwhile if you wanted to cover all other events such as losing your suitcases or theft etc.

I don't have any recommendations sorry, never used anyone! I would think most insurance policies are pretty much the same these days.
