When you receive your ITA, you'll have a medical form to be completed by a doctor. Depending on your country of origin, this can be done by a panel doctor or by your own physician.
For the character part, you'll need a police background check. Again, the exact process will depend on your country of origin. It usually involves being fingerprinted then sending them off to the central police agency.
