sorry to reply to this one so late..
but it's not actually true that you have to wait until you've been here a year or two years or whatever, it seems that it depends who you speak to at the ird place..
we have friends who arrived at the same time as us and have been getting it from day1.. we applied after about 10 months and ended up getting it back dated to when we arrived.. so go for it, and if they say you need to wait, ask them to check.. and keep getting them to check till they realise they are wrong.. defiitely able to claim from day one..
