Burgundy has hit the nail on the head.

They're trotting circles. I've seen a couple that are made of cinder or ash, but most of 'em are just big grassy ovals. There are loads of them, but I've only seen the odd horse and cart trotting round a couple. I thought they were relicsof yesteryear, but trotting is huge round here, so a lot of them do get used.
And before the equestrians out there abuse my terminology, a horse is a horse, a cart is a trailer with two wheels and trotting is another word for fast walking!
