I recommend that if you do inquire about your status, begin nicely. Give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps assuming that they got bogged down under a heavy work load. Don't tick them off at the start. Then, if that doesn't get a response, complain in a firmer (yet still polite) tone to someone higher up. We had to complain at one point, and I believe that by not attacking our caseworker, we were able to maintain cordial relations with her for the duration. We simply stated our problem and asked for a resolution.
