FWIW my OH & I booked flights, emailed our CV's to a couple of companies and told them the dates we would be in NZ and available for interview if they were interested.
We flew out in August, I had already been contacted by a company and had an interview lined up for a few days after we arrived. A company contacted my OH whilst we were there and invited him for interview. As a result we both now have confirmed job offers!
It's like MB said in her response that it is showing a prospective employer that you are keen and serious about moving to NZ.
