I was never really a doggy person, but Lou already had one when we got together. A Basset Hound of all things. When she went, we both missed having a dog, which really surprised me. Now we have the walking nightmare that is Willow. She's great fun, and wonderful with the kids, she just does not get the whole, coming back when off the lead thing.

I think kids learn so much from having animals around and not just about responsibility as is the commonly quoted reason for having them. Because animals think so completely differently to us we have to be open to learning from them, they encourage acceptance, tolerance and patience.
I know where to get baby bears from Jon so if you decide to give one a go when you get here let me know.

You would be surprised actually at how little room they take up. When Hugo's in he lies down out the way and you forget he's even there, it's just when he decides to play he makes his presence felt but, thankfully, that's usually when he's outside.

I will post some piccies of the baby newfies soon, they are adorable.
