Somuch of what has happened to us here has felt this way Amy! Another thing happened last night....
A lot of work I did in the UK was within the education sector i.e. schools would invite me in to take drama, dance, voice workshops etc, often these would last a term or whatever. I had to be police checked and everything, referenced etc. When I checked to see whether they did anything similar here, no. To work in schools here you have to have a teaching qualification, on the few occasions they did have artists in schools , the school had to apply for a 'special license to teach' on behalf of the artist. It doesnt happen very often. BUT....a friend of ours is a primary teacher in Souh Auckland and she emailed me a link last night about Creative NZ building a database of 'Community Artists for Education', CAFE for short. They are starting a new initiative to get artists working in schools and are building this database as a directory and inviting community artists to submit a profile and evidence of experience, schools peruse the info and choose the artist they'd like to work with. Hey presto - right up my street.
Like you say Amy - meant to be
