Would never want to put anyone off from starting/adding to their brood - but just in case you weren't aware, the maternity/paternity leave arrangements here aren't that great. I believe that mums get a maximum of 80% of their salary for 3 months - but this is capped at quite a low amount (like as if it was 80% of the minimum wage...). I think you can take a further 9 months off unpaid. Dads can take 2 weeks unpaid, I think...depending on the employer. Pretty shocking, I thought - but worth looking into if you're into thinking ahead and finances are a consideration....might help with the planning!
