Scrap your car and get $400 in bus and train tickets

A bid to get old bombs off the road is coming with a handout of $400 worth of bus and train tickets.
The trial will be launched in Auckland on Monday and will run for six weeks until the end of June.
Associate Transport Minister Judith Tizard said the scheme was targeting vehicles that were either unwarranted, will not pass their next warrant, or where the warrant will cost more than the vehicle.
"If you cringe every time your car is due for a warrant of fitness, why not consider trading in your car for $400 worth of bus and rail passes?" she said.
"What better way to try public transport than for two months free," Ms Tizard said.
