Default Airport tax in the UK?

Does anyone in or from the UK have any information about a type of airport tax that may have recently been introduced there? I remember reading about a carbon emissions tax but, on looking back for details, it still appears to be in the debating stage. I?m not sure if there?s yet another tax that you get clobbered with, possibly when you try to leave the UK. The amount involved, if I remember rightly was ?60 per person.

No.1 son (by order of birth, not preference, I hasten to add  ) and family have booked to visit us in August (worst possible time, of course, but never mind ). He?s very concerned that, on top of the ticket price, he?ll be caught out at the airport with another hefty bill for leaving the country. I believe he booked online so I don?t know if that amount (if it exists) would have been included in the ticket price or whether he?ll come up against it at Heathrow. ?240 is a lot of money to shell out on the spot, but he says he hasn?t been able to find out anything about it.

Any info would be gratefully received.
