Re: Simply can't afford to live in NZ
Message to all....
I was not an high earner in Singapore but I do get to travel a lot, almost twice every month for company business and on company expense. That really help me to save a lot on expenses compared to when I am not travelling. Food, lodging, transportation and such. My wife, she travels a lot too and enjoy even more luxury than me. 5-6 star hotel, ex. restaurants and such. We are dressed comfortably in nice clothes, good food, nice apartment BUT we never really got a life besides work, SHopping!! ($$$) and other forms of recreation that need money. In actual fact because we hardly see each other, we end up using luxury to satisfy ourselves. It really sounds quite pathetic. We decided this is not the life we want and will put a stop to it.
That is when we decided to move to NZ with of course lowering our expectations. I agree we must earn a decent living here to survive and get the necessary. However there are many things money cannot buy. Family cohensiveness is one example. I have friends in UK who work till their bone just to look good on the outside.
We lowered our expectations and still can live here comfortably. Now my wife can stop working and become full time housewife which is really nice. I am in IT so earn quite a bit which is really good too. What I am saying is that, it takes a lot of courage to make the change and adjust. However once you do that, I believe many many of us here in this forum never regret and look back.
When you look at the country to migrate, never compared it to your home country. There is no end to it and will eventually make you very miserable. There are pros and cons about NZ too. To me, Singapore is wonderful place to live, I just want to broaden my life experience.
All I want to say....
