The NZ Hum complete with actual recording. ?Hope it?s not caused by something sinister rumbling away under the earth?s crust.
Is that story still going on? ?:)

I did wonder whether lava caves and tunnels could carry the hum from another part of the North Shore. ?There are many of these caves and tunnels under Auckland, caused by the lava flows solidifying on the outside leaving the inside still fluid and carrying the lava. ?From what I've read, the North Shore area has been the site of at least seven volcanic eruptions, creating three crater lakes - only one of which is now filled with water (Pupuke). ?However, many of the volcanic cones created were quite small compared to the rest of the Auckland area and it seem there was not as much lava flow. ?Certainly nothing to take the 'hum' from the North Shore right up to the Whangapararoa Penninsula. ? ?Rangitoto has many lava tunnels but have no idea where the hum would come from here and be carried across the harbour.

I think if there was anything new about to pop up out of the crust there would be minute earth tremors which would have been picked up by now.
