Default Re: The Wish List

This is not only providing a wish list from the old forum, but also a ?not very happy with? list from this current forum in case some stuff can be rectified.

Things I prefer from the old forum
Front page was quite smart with it?s colour scheme.
Message text was blacker and stood out more, plus I liked having the red on the index as well which broke up the bland look.
Being able to reply directly from a post rather than go out of it, go to the top, click Log in, then find my way back to the post I want to reply to. ?
Much better Search facility. ?9 times out of 10 I could find what I wanted.

Things I like from the new forum
Greater variety of ?extras? available. ?More font sizes, colours, ability to insert tables, ?move? facility etc. to play with.
View 10 most recent posts ? useful if you?re in a hurry
More privacy as people must log in to be able to read members? personal info

Things I don?t like from the new forum
Pale coloured text which doesn?t ?ask? to be read.
Longer messages often need editing to tidy up margin alignment i.e. text doesn?t always line up against the left hand margin and you?re left with occasional untidy indentations.
Inconvenient method of replying to posts i.e. can?t click on reply from the actual post unless you?re already logged in. ?I usually ?read? then log in if I want to reply to a post. ?Previously I could click Reply and it would take me to the log in screen, then back to the message (I think).
Dreadful Search facility. ?Not very user friendly and too bulky when it does get round to giving answers. ?Old forum one was tidier and easier to sift through.
Confusion with Today and Yesterday posts. ?Before logging in I can see posts I made ?today? being classed as being made ?yesterday?. ?When I log in (and the time adjusts to my own zone) it reverts to ?Today?. ?My main gripe with this is that other people looking in, who haven?t logged in, would see the Index as showing no current Today posts and might leave the forum unread. ?No doubt this is due to everything being shown in NZ time which converts to the user?s own time only after logging in.
Pages can be slow to load and you have to wait until they load up completely. ?Sometimes gives the impression that's all there is until, suddenly, you see more has come up.
Doesn't go to last post. ?We have to scroll down the page to find the current posts.
Need more smileys - bags I get to do them. ?

That?s what I?ve come up with so far, but it?s early in the morning and the old brain is just gearing up. Might dream up some more things before too long. ?I think some of my problems with the new forum stem from all the difficulties we?ve had with getting it running and trying to tidy it up. ?Just have bad karma about it. ?I usually like new things, but this one just went from bad to worse, from my point of view. ?Perhaps a 'fresh start' with it would help.
