Default USING UK LAPTOPS ETC IN NZ

Yup...American laptops work fine in NZ as well. As a matter of fact, my husband just bought a Dell laptop with all the bells and whistles yesterday to bring with us. We are buying a bunch of transformers and adaptor plugs to use our electricals there. On the subject of electricals....does anyone know if heat producing electricals (irons, toasters etc.) from the US work safely with transformers in NZ? Small appliances like these are very cheap here but cost a lot in NZ. Also, I read that cell phones from the UK work there...do the ones from the US work as well? What about telephones? I bought a very nice system just months ago...would be a waste to dump it if it works there. I heard that US tvs don't pick up the signals in NZ. They work fine to play DVDs.
