Default Likelihood of landing a job on a VV

So, let me get this right then, coz something Stevey said made me think. If we head on out there on a VV, all of us, kids and all with no jobs lined up or anything having sold up lock, stock and barrel in the UK, how likely are we to be told that any vacancies we apply for could be filled by a kiwi? That could apply to any vacancy couldn't it? Surely one somewhere could do any job advertised?

All the enquiries we've made about work have been met with 'sounds like you have loads of skills that we could use, come and see us when you get here'. Gary's degree is in humanities so not specialised enough to get him snapped up from over here and you know my work, people have to meet me to know whether I have what they're looking for, be able to see me dance or teach, caught between a you know what and a you know what.

And if one of us does land a job, do we then receive free schooling for the kids etc with a work permit? AND all the jobs you see advertised say applicants must hold a current work permit and be registered for work in NZ, so how can you even apply for work if you only have a VV? :-k
