Default Do I look like a mad cow?

Back to topic, mostly because I missed out on all the jolliness as it happened...

Even here in the States, at least at our blood bank, they ask if a person has spent more than 6 months since 1992 (?) in the UK. They have other disqualifying stuff, too. I wonder if you vowed that you had been a vegetarian all that time, or even hadn't eaten beef, if they would take you. I'm not sure if they have a blood test for bovine encephalitis, or even Creutzfeld-Jacob disease (the human equivalent), but perhaps its cost is too prohibitive to use as a screening test. That, or it requires dissecting your brain, which would limit your usefulness as a repeat donor ::)
