Where was your favourite holiday?
Being married to an expat, I?m in the fortunate position of being able sample living in other countries whilst my husband gets paid for working there. Being away from our base country for so long, we often feel we have to take our leave back in the UK where we can catch up with family and friends. That?s not to say we haven?t had a few ?foreign? holidays as well, notably one to Egypt which took us down to Aswan, visiting Abu Simbel, and sailing from Aswan to Luxor on one of the Nile cruises. From Luxor we flew to Cairo and spent our last few days there. We really enjoyed ourselves although, by the end of it, we were totally templed out. The weather was great, the company also. We saw a lot of things that made us ponder on the ingenuity and skill of ancient Egyptian civilisation when we compared what they had at their disposal then, by way of technology, to what is available now. How they built their temples and the pyramids, shifting and lifting massive blocks of stone and placing them so precisely and carving deep into solid rock, is beyond belief. Egypt, with its tourist sites, is very commercialised and gimmicky now but, nevertheless, it did give us plenty to think about as to exactly how they managed to achieve what they did without all the heavy building machinery that is in use today. Today?s Egyptian is a mere shadow of his former compatriot and it?s sad to see the deterioration from what must have been a very powerful race. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall during those ancient times and watched the power and magic at work.
Well, that?s what I think about Egypt. Next holiday is in...... New Zealand. Let?s see if it can top that.[img:b363ede56e]http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/figuren/c035.gif[/img:b363ede56e]
