Last year we arrived in Wellington on Guy Fawkes Night. The fireworks display was awesome - the best I'd ever seen! What a city for viewing them, too - the city wraps around the harbor, so many have a stadium view. Folks launch their own personal fireworks displays prior to the big show, which are nicely visible in the hills opposite.

I'd be game for doing a Thanksgiving-like feast when we get there, though I vote for shifting it to May - turkey & dressing gluttony just doesn't appeal to me in summer (BBQ and potato salad, on the other hand...). Besides, it could help break up the winter like it does up north.
