Hi,
I'm sorry to not be very helpful on this.
I think the age limit is 56.
I don't think NZ have any retirement policy.
There are several possibilities:

1) If one of you has qualifications and work experience and can get a job, then you can get a work permit, then residency. Then retire 3 months later, after the residency has been finally approved.

2) If you have masses of money, you might be able to go in on investor/entrepeneur category. I haven't looked at this for a while I'm afraid. We are talking over 1 million NZ$ I think.

3) I assume you don't have family in NZ !

4) You can visit on holiday for 9 months in every 18. You could live there for 9 months and somewhere else the other 9 months. I know that's not much of a solution.

That's about all the possibilities I can think of.
