I came across this site a couple of weeks ago, and you may have seen a couple of my posts already. Apologies for not introducing myself sooner....

We (Cath 28 & Duncan 33) plan to move to NZ in Spring 2006. I have lived and worked in NZ before (many moons ago on a working hol visa) but Duncan has never been. The strange thing is, it was Duncan who suggested checking NZ out and hopefuly move there. Of course I've always had it in the back of my mind that I'd like to setlle in NZ, so was thrilled when he suggested it.

We have a trip planned in Nov 2005, so will be checking out places, job opportunities etc with the hope of moving in the following Spring. Duncan will be the one applying for residencey. He's a Senior Software Developer (10+ yrs exp) . I thought it would be quite simple to apply for res, but his IT skills are not on the list. He's a Lotus Notes man. I see alot of people go out on a holiday with the intention of getting a job. How does this work ??? You're not allowed to work whilst on hols so how can you apply for jobs when they all state "must be elligable to work in NZ"??? Is it just because they're more willing to wait for you to apply for your work visa because you're already in the country? Can you start to work when you apply for the visa, or do you have to wait till it all comes through? How long does this take? If you don't get a job after 3 months (eek) is it possible to come home and then enter the country again for another 3 months on 'holiday'.
