Taking Electrical Goods

Taking Electrical Goods

Before considering taking any electrical goods with you, you need to know whether or not they are actually going to work! New Zealand’s power supply is a 240v 50Hz system. So, for example, if you were coming from North America, where your power supply is 110v 60Hz, none of your stuff would work! (Not for very long anyway!) People shipping goods out from the UK would be fine, although some television sets / video recorders would require modification to pick up the New Zealand signals, and you would have to change the plugs as sockets are also different, but the UK operates the same 240v system. Anywhere else in the world – check what system your country runs on to give you a guide. Of course, even if your goods are compatible, the cost of shipping them could far out weigh their replacement value in New Zealand. So, unless you are extremely attached to your fridge, leave it there!
